Biography
Doug is serving his fifth term
representing the 42nd Legislative District, which includes: Birch
Bay, Blaine, Deming, Everson, Ferndale, Lynden, Nooksack, Point
Roberts, Sumas, and parts of Bellingham.
His priorities for the 2007 legislative
session include strengthening families, empowering citizens, and
limiting government.
In November 2006, Doug was elected
Deputy Republican Leader by his colleagues in the House. This is the
second highest ranking position within the House Republican Caucus.
He has also served as House Floor Leader and top ranking Republican
for the House Transportation Committee.
Doug and his wife, Tasha, are lifetime
residents of Whatcom County and raising their two young daughters,
Elsa and Addi, in Ferndale.
Prior to being elected to the House of
Representatives, Doug worked as legislative affairs coordinator at
the Department of Fish and Wildlife and as a policy analyst for the
Washington State Senate.
He received a BA in government from
Cornell University and a MA in political science and environmental
policy from Western Washington University. |
