Olympia 8th grader serves as
legislative page to
Rep. Richard DeBolt
Griffin Middle School
student Megan Mansfield served recently as a legislative page in the
House of Representatives. She was sponsored by House Minority Leader
Rep. Richard DeBolt, R-Chehalis.
Megan, who is 14, is the daughter of Mark and Darla Mansfield of
Olympia.
“I’m proud to have sponsored Megan as a legislative page. She was able
to experience the Legislature at a very busy and unique time of the
legislative session,” DeBolt said. “My hope for all pages is that
they have an educational and fun experience in Olympia. It’s also
important they share these experiences with peers because we need more
young people engaged in the legislative process. Young people are our
next generation of leaders – including the political arena.”
As a page, Ms. Mansfield’s responsibilities included delivering messages
and documents to legislators in their offices, committee meetings and
House chambers during floor sessions. This responsibility is considered
vital to the efficient operation of the Washington State Legislature.
In addition to assigned duties, Ms. Mansfield continued her regular
schoolwork two hours a day and spent time in the legislative page school
learning about state government.
