House GOP leader relieved by
governor’s reversal on tax hike
“We’re relieved the
governor has rethought her position and realized the escalating cost of
the state’s workers’ compensation program is placing an unfair and
unmanageable burden on the small business owners who provide jobs in our
communities. It was Governor Gregoire’s administration that proposed
this latest increase and it was up to her to put a stop to it,” said
Rep. Richard DeBolt.
“The position of the House Republican caucus all along has been that
this tax hike was unnecessary and bad for our job creation efforts in
Washington. As she was called upon this week to address a concerned
group of small business owners at the Washington Policy Center
conference, it became apparent that the tax increase proposed by her
administration was not defensible.
“I hope there is continued
interest on the part of this administration to generate new job
opportunities for Washington’s working families, even long after our
state’s job providers have returned home from this conference to run
their businesses,” he said. “Republican lawmakers will be working in
Olympia for a long-term, steadfast commitment from this governor to
maintain a healthy economy for all areas of our state.”
