Capital High School student
serves as legislative page
Brittany M. Ruiz, a
10th-grader Capital High School, served as a legislative page in the
state House of Representatives in Olympia Jan. 31-Feb. 4. Ruiz was
sponsored by Rep. Richard DeBolt, R-Chehalis.
As a page, Ruiz observed
the Legislature in action and was responsible for delivering messages
and documents to legislators in their offices, committee hearings and
the House chamber during floor sessions.
To become a page,
applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14
and 17. Pages are required to hold a grade point average of C+ or
better, and must obtain written permission from their parents and
school.
Ruiz is president of the
horticulture club, a member of the Capital High Site Council, a member
of the Diversity Forum, and is a yearbook staff member. Ruiz, 16, is the
daughter of Melissa and Joe Ruiz of Olympia.
