Crouse named Technology, Energy and Communications leader for House Republicans

Rep. Larry Crouse, R-Spokane Valley, was named ranking Republican member on the House Technology, Energy & Communications Committee yesterday by Republican House Leader Bruce Chandler, R-Granger. Crouse has held the leadership position since 1997.

The House Technology, Energy & Communications Committee considers access to, deployment, and regulation of technology. It also handles policy and regulatory issues relating to telecommunications, including both single and two-way electronic communication; energy availability, production, and conservation; and infrastructure.

“Our state’s ability to generate enough energy continues to be one of the most important issues for the future. With our continued reliance on hydropower, Washington is just one dry winter away from facing an energy crisis,” said Crouse. “We need to do everything we can to encourage new energy production in our state.”

Crouse brings a lot of experience to his House Technology, Energy & Communications Committee position. The six-term legislator has been a member of the committee since 1995.

Rep. Jeff Morris, D-Anacortes, will be chair of the House Technology, Energy & Communications Committee. Democrats hold a 55-43 majority over Republicans in the House of Representatives.

“I look forward to continuing to reach across the political aisle to work with my Democratic counterparts on common sense solutions for our state’s challenges,” said Crouse. “With the way our economy is diversifying, it’s important we look for ways to have the best infrastructure in place for our communication and technological needs of the future.”

Before his election to the House of Representatives in 1994, Crouse worked for Kaiser Aluminum. He is a life-long Washingtonian who has lived in the Spokane area since 1974.

The 2005 legislative sessions begins January 10 and is scheduled to run for 105 days.
