S.C. union decertification
another red flag for Washington jobs
Legislator fears jobs will leave the state
Rep. Cary Condotta, lead Republican on the House Commerce
and Labor Committee, today had this to say about the announcement from
South Carolina:
"It's no secret that we have been worried about the
future of Washington's aerospace industry, but we should all take
a hard look at what the South Carolina union's message is to our state.
The decertification vote of the union tells us they are rolling out the
welcome mat to manufacturing jobs, dedicating themselves to steady and
reliable labor, and putting the negotiations for pay and benefits back
in a neutral setting.
"I've raised the red flag to lawmakers and warned that if
we did not do all that we could to retain and grow the base
of good-paying jobs in our state, whether in aerospace or elsewhere,
other states would move to bring them to their communities. I don't know what the future holds for our home-grown
Boeing Company, but I do know we must act now to address the rising costs of
doing business for all employers in Washington.
"We must improve
our business climate. The status quo is not acceptable. If we stay on
the current path, we would just be putting another brick in the wall to
fence-off and deter future job growth. We need to attract new employers
to our state, while keeping the ones we have."
