Mack serves in legislative
page program
Simone Mack, a sophomore
at Cascade High School, traveled to Olympia the week of Feb. 17 to participate in
the legislative page program in the House of Representatives. She was
sponsored by
Rep. Cary Condotta,
R-Wenatchee.
Page
responsibilities are varied and include delivering messages and
documents to legislators in their offices, in committee meetings and in
the House chambers during floor sessions. In addition to these duties,
students take part in page school where they learn how a bill becomes law. They are also required to continue their studies for two hours
during the day.
"The House page
program is a wonderful
opportunity for young adults and I am happy Simone could be a part of
it," said
Condotta. "It is really important
our young men and women understand the legislative process, and our page program offers them
an excellent opportunity to learn do that."
To become a page,
student applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14
and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and schools.
