Condotta begins second term,
appointed to new House committees
Rep. Cary Condotta,
R-Wenatchee, began a new term in Olympia today as 12th District
Representative. He also announced he will serve on two new committees.
In December, House
Republican Leader Bruce Chandler announced Condotta’s appointment as
Ranking Republican on the influential House Commerce and Labor
Committee. Now Chandler has rounded out Condotta’s committee assignments
by appointing him to the high-profile House Health Care Committee and
the locally important Economic Development, Agriculture and Trade
Committee.
“The 12th District faces so many issues that are unique to our part of
the state, including water and agriculture,” Condotta said. “Being on
these committees – especially Economic Development, Agriculture and
Trade – means I’ll have direct influence over promoting legislation that
help us, or objecting to ideas that would hurt.”
The Economic Development,
Agriculture and Trade Committee considers issues related to water;
agricultural production, marketing and sales; animal and plant disease
control; and tourism – all issues particularly important to the 12th
District. Committee members also consider legislation related to local
and state economic development, business assistance and financing, food
and cosmetic safety, and domestic and international trade.
The House Health Care
Committee considers issues relating to accessibility and affordability
of health care in the private health insurance market – an issue sure to
be at the forefront in the 2005 legislative session. It also considers
legislation related to Medicaid and the basic health plan, health care
facility licensing, health care provider credentialing, and the
regulation of pharmacies, trauma care centers and public health
departments.
“One of the best things I
can do for the people of the 12th District is help build an environment
where employers are creating more jobs,” Condotta said. “All three of
the committees I’ll be working on will hear legislation that affects our
local economic climate. I look forward to voting on legislation that
will serve our state’s families by making Washington state more
competitive."
