Supplemental capital budget
projects benefit 12th District
Reps. Mike Armstrong and
Cary Condotta, 12th District Republicans, say students and families in
the communities they serve should benefit from the 2004 supplemental
capital budget that passed the House today, on the 57th day of the
regular 60-day legislative session. The House approved the measure,
House Bill 2573, and sent it to the Senate for further consideration.
“I’m pleased to see that even in a supplemental budget year, we’re able
to create new opportunities for folks back home,” said Armstrong.
“Wenatchee Valley College and Central Washington University are
important local resources for students in our communities. More than $3
million in new investments bolsters our ability to serve families and
students at home and highlights the value our local community college
and university.”
“As a member of the House Higher Education Committee, I’ve encouraged
more emphasis on our community colleges and partnerships between them
and our universities,” Condotta said. “This supplemental budget covers
both, while funding some long-overdue improvements.”
Condotta also pointed out
the projects will create new construction jobs in the community.
The 12th District lawmakers are pleased to help secure funding for these
higher education projects in North Central Washington:
The 2004 supplemental
capital budget will spend about $100 million on higher education
projects throughout the state. The budget complements the 2003-05
capital budget that passed the House last year authorizing the sale of
bonds for statewide capital improvements in the amount of $2.45 billion.
The supplemental budget does not require a separate bond bill to finance
new projects.
The lawmakers added they’re pleased these new investments are one step
closer to becoming reality. They’ll now focus on getting them into final
supplemental capital budget negotiations between the House and Senate,
and signed by the governor before the end of the regular session on
March 11.
