Oak Harbor
wins Smart Communities Award
Community effort honored for construction of
playground
The city of Oak Harbor was
honored yesterday (Wednesday) with the 2007 Governor's Smart Communities
Award for efforts by the local community in the construction of an
11,000 square foot playground at Fort Nugent Park.
The award was presented to
Oak Harbor Mayor Patty Cohen, City Parks Manager Hank Nydam and City
Project Manager Adam Johnson during a ceremony at the state Capitol in
Olympia. They were welcomed to the Capitol by
Rep.
Barbara Bailey, R-Oak
Harbor, who offered her congratulations.
More than 1,000 volunteers
from throughout the Oak Harbor area worked together toward a common goal
of creating a playground for local children to enjoy.
Oak Harbor was among nine
winners statewide of the award which recognizes outstanding work by
local governments and their partners on growth management and community
development.
