Bailey seeks economic opportunities during Taiwan
trade mission
Oak Harbor legislator to share 10th District
products with Taiwanese officials
Expanding export
opportunities for the 10th District and Washington state is the goal of
Rep.
Barbara Bailey, R-Oak Harbor, who leaves Sunday, June 24, for
Taipei, Taiwan.
Bailey and seven other legislators are joining Lt. Gov. Brad Owen for a
nine-day trade and goodwill mission to Taiwan where they will meet with
officials representing the Taiwanese government, business, education,
agriculture and foreign trade.
"I am very honored to be
hand-selected by the Taiwanese government to participate in these
important international trade discussions. Taiwan is Washington's fifth-largest trading partner. Through these discussions, we hope to
strengthen those ties and further expand trade opportunities with Taiwan
and the Pacific Rim," said Bailey, Republican leader of the House
Community, Economic Development and Trade Committee.
"I also see this as an
opportunity to showcase some of our local products with the possibility
of opening new export markets for the 10th District," added Bailey.
Loganberry wines, jams and
liqueurs from Whidbey Island's Greenbank Farm, salmon from Seabolt's
Smokehouse in Oak Harbor, and coffee from Camano Coffee Roasters are
among some of the products Bailey will share and showcase during the
trip. Bailey said the mission will also seek to attract foreign
investment, tourists, and college students to our state.
Besides Taipei, the
Washington trade delegation is scheduled to visit several other cities
in Taiwan, including Tainan, Kenting, and Kaohsiung. The cost of the
trip is being paid entirely by the Taiwanese government under the
coordination of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle. The
group will return to Washington July 2.
