Bailey, House pay homage to Skagit Valley Tulip
Festival
Oak Harbor Republican invites other lawmakers to
'tiptoe through the tulips'
It may be a few weeks
before the tulips are in full bloom. However, the House of
Representatives took a few moments today to approve a resolution,
co-sponsored by
Rep.
Barbara Bailey, recognizing the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.
Bailey, R-Oak Harbor,
noted that the tulip bloom is a major tourist attraction in the Skagit
Valley, drawing people from all over the world.
"In April, the tulip
fields are absolutely spectacular. There aren't enough words to describe
these colorful fields. If you haven't been there, you've missed one of
the most incredible sights in the entire Pacific Northwest," said
Bailey, whose district encompasses a large portion of the Skagit Valley.
House Resolution 4640 recognizes the importance of the tulip
industry to the economy of the Skagit Valley. The measure also salutes
the local communities and the 24th Annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival,
which is scheduled for April 1 through April 30.
"When you come from the
plateau down into the Skagit Valley, as far as you can see, fields and
fields are exploding with gorgeous color -- reds, yellows, purples, and
even black tulips. There are more colors than you can imagine," added
Bailey to members on the House floor. "We invite you to come to the
Skagit Valley, bring your cameras, and tiptoe through the tulips."
The resolution was
approved unanimously.
