Bailey receives Business Championship Award

Rep. Barbara Bailey, R-Oak Harbor, was honored today by the Joint Snohomish County Chambers with its 2005 Business Championship Award.

The award was presented to Bailey this morning during a breakfast meeting of the chambers group in Everett. The group is made up of representatives from the Everett Area, South Snohomish County and Monroe chambers of commerce.

Bailey was one of nine legislators to receive the award, all of whom voted more than 70 percent of the time to support the chambers’ agenda, according to Everett Area Chamber President Louise Stanton-Masten.

"We are pleased to present Business Champion Awards to our legislators who supported economic policies that improve the ability of Washington state and Snohomish County businesses to compete successfully," said Stanton-Masten. "These legislators voted for legislation that we identified as important for business prosperity, job creation and economic development."

Stanton-Masten said the chamber coalition evaluated and tracked 79 bills. Of those supported by the chamber, 12 were signed into law.

"I am very honored to receive this award. My votes are based upon the needs and the best interest of the citizens who elected me to office," said Bailey. "Whether it is the farmer in the field growing crops or the cannery preparing vegetables for market, small businesses are the lifeblood of our state and provide jobs for families. It is in the best interest of our citizens to constantly look for ways to increase jobs for families. When people are employed, they have an opportunity to achieve their dreams and provide for their families. The creation of jobs and support of small businesses continues to be high on my priority list in the Legislature."

The chamber listed Bailey as voting at least 78 percent of the time with its business, jobs and economic development agenda.
