Rep. Armstrong to receive
business group's top legislative award
Business Institute names Armstrong 'Star
Legislator'
Enterprise Washington's
Business Institute has chosen
Rep. Mike
Armstrong
to receive its 2008 Legislative Business Star Award during a luncheon
April 15 in Seattle.
According to Erin
McCallum, president of Enterprise Washington, Armstrong, R-Wenatchee, is
among four legislators selected to receive the award for their
pro-business leadership during the 2008 legislative session.
"Representative
Armstrong deserves credit for keeping a strong business viewpoint in
front of his caucus. He worked across party lines on difficult issues
from burdensome regulatory oversight to health care to help the citizens
of our state," said McCallum.
Headquartered in Issaquah,
The Business Institute of Washington encourages and facilitates the
engagement of private sector employers and employees in public policy.
Armstrong said the award
is a pleasant surprise and great honor.
"It is truly a
pleasure to be recognized by the business community for those things
I've tried to accomplish in Olympia. Small business is the backbone of
our economy. It is so important that we make sure businesses can be
successful in the state of Washington," said Armstrong.
"When you look at all
of the many government regulations in Washington that affect business,
it's often an uphill battle for them. That's why it is imperative that
legislators stand up for business and help employers through the maze of
government," added Armstrong. "Successful businesses mean family-wage
jobs in Washington. The way we protect those jobs for families,
especially in a recession, is to be on the side of business."
The awards luncheon will
be held Tuesday, 1:30 p.m., at Seattle's Sheraton Hotel.
Formed in 2006, this is
the second year the Business Institute has issued the Legislative
Business Star awards. Other legislators named as this year's award recipients
are:
Sen. Curtis King, R-Yakima; Sen. Derek Kilmer, D-Gig Harbor; and Rep.
Deb Eddy, D-Kirkland.
