Condotta, Armstrong support funding for 12th District projects

More than $2.5 million approved for Grant, Douglas Counties

Public works projects in Grant and Douglas counties would receive more than $2.5 million under legislation unanimously approved today in the House of Representatives.

House Bill 2437, which authorizes the low- and no-interest loans, was supported by 12th District Reps. Cary Condotta and Mike Armstrong.

"Our part of the state is growing so quickly our infrastructure cannot keep pace," said Condotta, R-East Wenatchee. "These funds are critical to our communities. People depend on public facilities to serve their needs and the projects approved today will be well-received."

"I am very pleased to be a co-sponsor of this legislation which will not only provide critical funding for local projects, but supports local jobs," said Armstrong, R-Wenatchee. "The public works assistance account is a great program for our local communities that may have had difficulty finding money elsewhere for important infrastructure projects. Plus, in its entire history, there's never been a default in this program."

House Bill 2437 would finance three projects in the 12th District:

  • Mansfield will receive $235,000 to upgrade the waste water treatment plant;

  • Regional Board of Mayors would receive $2.4 million for the Delano Transfer Station project near Grand Coulee.

The Washington State Public Works Board is made up of 13 private citizens and local elected officials from around the state. The board oversees the application process to ensure that all elements, such as project cost and other eligibility requirements, are included with the loan application. The board then selects the projects based on need and effort, and sends their recommendations to the Legislature for final approval. Once approved, the city or local jurisdiction can draw on their loan to complete the project.

Statewide, HB 2437 would provide more than $278 million in loans for water, sewer and road projects. The measure now goes to the Senate for further consideration.
