Leavenworth teen serves as page in Legislature

Hannah Hassinger, a freshman at Cascade High School, Leavenworth, served as a page this week in the House of Representatives. She was sponsored by Rep. Mike Armstrong, R-Wenatchee.

Paging presents students with a unique educational opportunity to participate in the legislative process. Page duties are varied. They range from ceremonial tasks such as presenting the flags to operational chores like distributing amendments during legislative sessions. Each job is vital to the efficient operation of the Legislature.

To serve as a page, a student must have permission from a parent or guardian and from his/her school; be sponsored by a current member of the House of Representatives; and be at least 14 years of age and not have reached his/her 17th birthday. Pages spend a week in Olympia, usually living with a host family, and are paid $35 for each day worked.

Hannah is the 14-year-old daughter of Mark and T. Kelly Hassinger, Leavenworth.
