State health care group
names Rep. Armstrong
‘Legislator of the Year’
Citing his support for
senior citizens and long-term care issues, the Washington Health Care
Association (WHCA) has named
Rep. Mike
Armstrong "2005 Legislator of the
Year."
Armstrong was presented with the award Wednesday during the WHCA’s
Annual Fall Conference in Chelan.
"Representative Armstrong
is a champion for seniors. He cares about long-term care and the
facilities that they live in. He recognizes that those facilities are
their homes and also small businesses," said WHCA Executive Director
Jonathan Eames.
"He wants to protect those small businesses and wants to ensure that the
quality of care is the highest possible in these facilities," added
Eames. "He’s done that time and again working in the Legislature with
Republicans and Democrats. Representative Armstrong reaches across the
aisle to ensure that we’re getting the best legislative policy
possible."
Eames said the bipartisan
award is given annually to a legislator who has shown leadership,
integrity and is dedicated to ensuring that seniors in long-term care
facilities in Washington receive the highest quality care.
"This is indeed an honor. It means the world to me to have an award like
this from an association that looks out for our most vulnerable
seniors," said Armstrong, R-Wenatchee. "I have the opinion that sooner
or later we will all be touched by either someone we know or even
ourselves being in a facility that needs to take care of us in our
twilight years. I put a lot of emphasis and work toward this issue
because I think it is so extremely important."
