Lawmakers approve funding
for Central Washington projects
A two-year state capital
construction budget proposal passed by the House of Representatives
today would earmark nearly $46 million for important local
infrastructure projects in the 12th Legislative District.
Rep. Mike
Armstrong, R-Wenatchee, said he was pleased by the budget offerings,
which includes projects for all communities in the region.
The budget will benefit
citizens throughout Central Washington with funding for important
services such as higher education, local economic development and
natural resource enhancements, Armstrong said. The package does an
excellent job of addressing the various needs in communities of every
size. It was the result of a collaborative, bipartisan approach that
will serve the citizens well if we can get an agreement on this package
and send it on to the governor.
Among the key projects for the 12th Legislative District included in the
capital budget are the following:

Wenatchee Valley
College $25 million for Anderson Hall and portable replacement
and Brown Library renovation

Brewster $4
million for phase 2 waste water treatment plant upgrades

Canyon A $2.8
million for Douglas County for stormwater improvements

Leavenworth
$1.4 million for water system improvements

Pearrygin Lake
$1.3 million for state park shoreline acquisition

East Wenatchee
Water District $490,875 for Grant Road transmission main
-
Malaga Water
District $161,500 for Crown Reservoir
-
Entiat
$150,000 for the Columbia Breaks Fire Interpreter Center

Foster Creek
$150,000 for habitat conservation planning
The budget also includes
$21 million for improvements at Central Washington University which
serves the higher education needs of 12th District families. The funding
package includes $2.2 million for Dean Hall renovation.
The 2005 legislative
session is schedule to adjourn on April 24.
