Armstrong honored for work
with youth and communities
The YMCAs of Washington
have presented their Strong Kids, Families and Communities Award to
Rep. Mike
Armstrong, R-Wenatchee. The award was presented today during the
organizations’ Advocacy Day activities in Olympia.
The Strong Kids, Families
and Communities Award was established by the YMCA in 1999. It is
presented to lawmakers who are strong advocates of kids, families and
communities and who, in their personal and professional lives, exemplify
the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Armstrong said he cannot
think of a greater honor than to be recognized for supporting YMCA
values.
“There really is no greater purpose than supporting families and kids,”
said Armstrong, who is Deputy Republican Leader in the House of
Representatives. “We address countless issues here, but we should never
lose sight of the fact that our work is about improving the quality of
life for families and building stronger communities. “I’m really humbled
by this announcement. This award is a tremendous honor and will serve as
a constant reminder for me as to why I got into public service,” he
said.
Armstrong was nominated by Eric Nelson of the Wenatchee Valley YMCA.
There are 17 YMCA chapters throughout Washington serving more than
500,000 citizens with services that include child care, health programs,
youth activities and scholarships.
Rep. Mike Armstrong is
serving his third term as legislator for the 12th District that includes
all of Douglas and Chelan counties and parts of Grant and Okanogan
counties.
