Local student spends week in
Olympia as legislative page
Rachel Quick, a 9th grader
at Cascade Christian Academy in Wenatchee, recently served as a
legislative page in the state House of Representatives. She was
sponsored by state
Rep. Mike
Armstrong, R-Wenatchee.
Rachel, 15, the daughter
of David and Cherri Quick of East Wenatchee, served as a page the week
of January 11-16, 2004.
As a page, Rachel observed
the Legislature in action and was responsible for delivering messages
and documents to legislators in their offices, committee meetings and in
the House Chamber during floor sessions. She also continued her studies
for two hours a day at a “page school” at the Capitol. Pages live with
volunteer host families while in Olympia.
To become a page,
applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14
and 16. Additionally, pages are required to hold a minimum C+ grade
average and obtain written permission from their parents and school.
Pages are responsible for their own housing and transportation during
their week. A list of available private hosted
housing is available at the time of employment confirmation.
Additional information or
questions in regards to the House Page program can be found on the House
of Representatives' Page Program website.
