RELEASE
Rep.
Glenn Anderson,
R-Fall City,
sponsored Kurt Schiewetz of Federal Way in the legislative page program for the
House of Representatives this week.
Schiewetz is
a freshman at Bellarmine Preparatory School in Tacoma and is the son
of
Ken and Kim Schiewetz. He is active in his local youth group, and plays
the bass guitar in the youth band at his church, and is on the basketball team for his
school.
"I was pleased to be able
to sponsor Kurt as a legislative page. It is important that our young
adults experience the Legislature in action and become involved in the
legislative process, as they are our community leaders of the future,"
said
Anderson.
Paging presents students
with a unique educational opportunity. Their duties vary from ceremonial
tasks, such as presenting the flags, to operational chores, like
distributing amendments during legislative sessions. It provides them a
chance to share fun and educational experiences with peers from around
the state.
The soft-spoken Schiewetz
said he enjoyed making new friends and hopes to stay in contact with
them. He felt
he would like to page again, should the offer present itself.
To become a page,
applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14
and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. For
