Anderson declared a top legislative 'Job Maker'

A coalition of Washington’s largest business groups has named Rep. Glenn Anderson, R-Fall City, a top legislative “Job Maker” for supporting bills that create jobs in Washington. The coalition’s web site, “JobMakers.com,” tracks job-related legislation and grades lawmakers’ voting records. Anderson received a +50 score for his votes on issues considered most important to creating jobs, including unemployment insurance, small-group health care, workers’ compensation and state regulations. Anderson was one of just a handful of legislators to receive the JobMakers’ top score.

“Government policies have a huge impact on whether there will be new jobs for people, or whether people will keep the jobs they already have,” Anderson explained. “As legislators, we can either create government policies that smother businesses with too many regulations and taxes, forcing them to cut jobs, or we can create an environment where employers thrive and are creating jobs. It’s that simple.”

The JobMakers.com site is in its third year of analyzing legislation that, if passed, will impact private-sector job creation in Washington. The site is sponsored by the Association of Washington Business and the Washington Roundtable (40 CEOs from major private employers throughout the state). Bills are analyzed in seven competitiveness categories: budget and taxes, unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation, health care, regulations, infrastructure (water. energy and transportation), and education and workforce. “Job maker” votes are those that:

  • Reduce the overall costs government imposes on business;

  • Make the business tax burden more competitive with other states;

  • Reduce the cost or time associated with complying with state regulations while maintaining environmental protections;

  • Make strategic investments in basic infrastructure;

  • Accelerate or facilitate education, training, or investment in high demand fields; or

  • Create clear incentives for employers to invest in Washington.

“The best way to create a robust, sustainable state economy is by supporting public policies that encourage employers to create jobs,” Anderson said. “I am proud to have taken votes that will help families in the 5th District and around the state prosper and thrive.”
