Riverview High School
student pages in Olympia
Riverview High School freshman Aaron McGaughey served as a page in the
House of Representatives this week. He was sponsored by his state
representative,
Maureen Walsh,
R-College Place.
McGaughey is the son of Terri and Stephen McGaughey of Kennewick. During
his week in Olympia, he stayed with a host family. Each day, he attended
page school, learned the inner workings of the Legislature, and
delivered documents to legislators on the floor of the House.
McGaughey said the best part of the experience was learning how to pass
a bill. During page school, he wrote his own mock bill dealing with the
budget.
Each year, students from around the state apply to participate in the
legislative page program. Pages earn $35 for each day they serve in the
program.
Interested students between the ages of 14 and 16 must have permission
from their school and a parent. For more information about the House
