Island County
Economic Development Council and Rep. Norma Smith to host alternative
tidal energy presentation at Coupeville Recreation Hall
Public encouraged to attend, ask questions at Aug. 26 event from 6 to 8
p.m.
Exciting developments are occurring in Washington's alternative energy
future and Whidbey Island’s neighboring waterways are part of that
story. The Snohomish Public Utility District and the Department of the
Navy are making significant investments in two in-water turbine
technology projects that will be placed in Admiralty Inlet.
The
local Economic Development Council (EDC) and
Rep.
Norma Smith are pleased to host representatives from the
projects in Island County on August 26 at the Coupeville Recreation
Hall. In addition, the University of Washington will give a presentation
and share findings of its research at the proposed Admiralty Inlet site.
"This
event will help us all become more informed regarding this technology,
and potential impacts to our future economic viability," said Smith,
R-Clinton. "The state's economic security depends on reliable and
renewable energy production."
The
Coupeville Recreation Hall is located at 901 Northwest Alexander Street.
