Rep. Norma
Smith to host community call March 24
New technology allows
constituents to participate, ask their legislator questions from
home
Rep. Norma Smith, R-Clinton, will host a 10th Legislative
District telephone town hall meeting Tuesday, March 24, 7 to 8 p.m.
Residents around the district are invited to participate in the call.
Constituents can call in toll-free at 1-877-229-8493,
then enter PIN 13450. The call works much like a
call-in radio show, where participants ask questions of Smith directly
during the hour.
"It's exciting to use this type of innovative way to reach folks who may
not have time to attend one of my in-person meetings, or are simply too
busy with family and work," Smith said. "My hope is that it allows
people to have a two-way dialog about their government without leaving
their home or trying to locate a number to call."
Smith said she's not sure which topics will be discussed, as the
conversation is set by the callers. The budget deficit, ferry situation
and local parks, she said, are the topics she is receiving the most
contact on recently.
"All
legislative issues are on the table. If I’m not able to answer an
inquiry, I’ll certainly follow-up to get the relevant information,"
Smith said. "Keeping up with the bills and making sure I know where our
district stands on issues is very important to me. Tuesday's
conversation will continue to help me be a better representative for our
district."
Smith can be reached at (360) 786-7884 or smith.norma@leg.wa.gov.
