Rep. Skip
Priest again honored for work on career and technical education
The Washington Association
of Career and Technical Education (ACTE) presented
Rep. Skip Priest with
their Policymaker of the Year for 2009 Award on Aug. 9 in Yakima. It
is the fifth time he has
received an award from the group for his work in the
Legislature on career and technical class options for students in the
K-12 system.
"I continue to believe that all children, whether they follow a path to
a four-year university or to a career in the trades or technical fields,
should have access to opportunities that help them reach their
goals," said Priest, lead Republican on the House Education Committee.
"To be honored by groups such as ACTE that aspires to the same ideals for our
education system is incredibly rewarding and encouraging."
The Federal Way legislator added that he views career and technical
education as one part of drop-out prevention.
"Students who would otherwise drop out of school may stay in school and
graduate because they found a passion in a technical field or a trade
through CTE options in their schools," Priest said. "Graduates with
skills that give them options for a good future in our workforce is
invaluable to the students and to our state's economy.
"In the end all of us must continue to work tirelessly to ensure we give
children access to the tools they need achieve their dreams. I appreciate all of the input and assistance ACTE offers
legislators to help us make good policies that benefit the next
generation," Priest concluded.
