Pullman student
pages in Olympia
Eighth grader Nat Jeschke paged in
the House of Representatives April 6-10. He was sponsored by 14th
District lawmaker
Charles Ross,
R-Naches. Jeschke is the son of Sheri and Francis Jeschke of
Pullman. He paged alongside his sister, Lizze Jeschke.
During his
week in Olympia,
Jeschke attended page school to learn about the legislative
process, assisted legislators on the House floor, and delivered
documents amongst the buildings on the capitol campus.
"I was
glad to sponsor Nat during his time in Olympia," Ross said. "I hope he
had a great experience and learned a lot about the legislative process."
Jeschke
introduced a mock bill in page school addressing the
issue of teen
sleep deprivation and academic success by requiring later start times
for high schools around the state, as well as increasing lunch time in
schools.
Since 1891, students from around the state have
applied to participate in the legislative page program. Pages earn $35
for each day they serve in the program.
Interested students must
be between the ages of 14 and 16, have permission from their school and
a parent, and be sponsored by a legislator. For more information about
the House page program, visit:
