Ross looks forward to working with new floor leader

The House Republican Caucus today announced Rep. Doug Ericksen as its new floor leader to replace Dan Newhouse, recently appointed as director of the Department of Agriculture.

Rep. Charles Ross, assistant floor leader, said he is looking forward to working with Ericksen to direct House floor discussions toward real solutions.

"Doug will be an important member of our leadership team," said Ross, R-Naches. "He realizes the importance of bringing solutions to the citizens of Washington. Citizens look to the Legislature for leadership, and this is something Doug and I will be striving to deliver."

The floor leader is responsible for developing and implementing floor strategy during legislative debate. In addition, the floor leader takes part in setting legislative priorities and creating plans to adopt policies supported by the caucus. As assistant floor leader, Ross will join Ericksen in his duties and leadership activities. Rep. Jaime Herrera, R-Ridgefield, also serves as assistant floor leader. Ross was first elected assistant floor leader in November 2007.
