Capital High School freshman Christian Anderson served as a page in the House of Representatives last week, Feb. 2-6. He was sponsored by Rep. Charles Ross, R-Naches. Anderson, age 14, is the son of Janet Anderson of Olympia. During his week at the Capitol, his duties included attending page school, learning the inner workings of state government and running errands for legislators and staff. "The page program provides a unique opportunity for students to learn about their government hands on," Ross said. "I'm glad Christian was able to be here to see how the Legislature operates. Pages often turn into our future leaders, and it's important for youth to get interested now." Each year, students from around the state apply to participate in the legislative page program. Pages earn $35 for each day they serve in the program. Interested students between the ages of 14 and 16 must have permission from their school and a parent.
