Rebecca Hess and Amelia Stracener experience legislative session

Rebecca Hess and Amelia Stracener served as legislative pages in the Washington State House of Representatives Jan. 26-30. They were sponsored by Rep. Jim McCune, R-Graham.

Rebecca, 14, is the daughter of Lisa Berry. She is in 9th grade at Yelm Middle School.

Amelia, 15, is the daughter of Ron and Diane Stracener. She is in 10th grade and home-schooled in Graham.

The girls’ responsibilities included delivering messages and documents to legislators and legislative assistants, committee meetings and House chambers. They also spent time in the legislative page school learning about state government.

Young men and women have come to Olympia to serve as pages for the Washington State Legislature since 1891. Pages must obtain permission from their parents and schools, and most live with volunteer host families.
