McCune appointed ranking
Republican on House General Government Appropriations Committee
Graham lawmaker continues other committee work for
veterans, energy and infrastructure
Rep. Jim
McCune, R-Graham, has been appointed as the ranking
Republican on the House General Government Appropriations Committee. The
2nd
District lawmaker was chosen by
House
Republican Leader Richard DeBolt of Chehalis.
“I’m honored that my legislative colleagues selected me for this budget
committee. The legislative session will be focused on the state’s
unprecedented budget deficit and I look forward to being a part of
addressing it,” said McCune. “After a four-year
spending spree, it is time for responsible state spending based on a
‘priorities of government’ model. This approach means not raising taxes
or fees on families and businesses. State government must live within
its means.”
The House General
Government Appropriations Committee considers funding of general
government, natural resources, corrections programs, and agencies, and
makes recommendations to the House Ways and Means Committee. In
addition, it considers bills related to general government, natural
resources and corrections with limited fiscal impact.
McCune will also continue to serve on the House
Capital Budget
and Technology,
Energy and Communications committees, in addition to the
Joint Committee
on Veterans’ and Military Affairs.
“No one has given more to their country than veterans. The state should
reciprocate by ensuring that veterans are provided the necessary
services to meet their changing needs,” said McCune.
“I’m proud of what the Joint Committee on Veterans’ and Military Affairs
has accomplished, but more work remains to be done. For example, we must
ensure that all veterans have access to affordable health care in our
state.”
The 2009 legislative session
begins January 12 and is scheduled to run 105 consecutive days.
