Rebeccah Plate recently served as a legislative page in the Washington State House of Representatives March 23 - March 27. She was sponsored by Rep. Bill Hinkle, R-Cle Elum. Rebeccah, 14, is the daughter of David and Lynnette Plate of Moses Lake. She is a student at Chief Moses Middle School. Rebeccah's responsibilities included delivering messages and documents to legislators and legislative assistants, committee meetings and House chambers. She also spent time in the legislative page school learning about state government. "The legislative page program is a great opportunity that gives students first-hand experience about how their government operates," said Hinkle. "We ask a lot of our pages each week and I appreciate Rebeccah's time and efforts. It's not easy navigating the capital campus and being away from home. She did a great job and it was a pleasure having her in Olympia." Young men and women have come to Olympia to serve as pages for the Washington State Legislature since 1891. Pages must obtain permission from their parents and schools, and many stay with volunteer host families in Thurston County. Rep. Hinkle can be contacted at (360) 786-7808 or hinkle.bill@leg.wa.gov.
