Rep. Haler receives awards from the Association of Washington Businesses and from ARC of Tri-Cities

Rep. Larry Haler, R-Richland, was honored recently by the ARC of Tri-Cities with its 2007-08 Distinguished Community Service Award.  Haler also received the 2008 Cornerstone Award from the Association of Washington Businesses (AWB) for an impressive fourth year in a row.

"The Cornerstone Award is our way of thanking those legislators who believe in competitiveness, economic growth and job creation," AWB President Don Brunell said.

The AWB is the state chamber of commerce and the umbrella organization for more than 130 trade and professional organizations.

"It's an honor to be recognized by the business community once again," Haler said.  "Good, family-wage jobs are an essential part of our communities and our economy.  I do not believe government should be in the business of creating jobs, but I do believe that government can help businesses create jobs and I'll continue to work on common sense policies in Olympia towards that end."

In receiving the Distinguished Community Service Award from the ARC of Tri-Cities, Haler was recognized by the world's largest grassroots organization of and for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

"We often hear of the developmentally disabled referred to as the 'DD' community," Haler said.  "When I hear 'DD' I think of the Determination and Dignity exemplified by this community as they climb the hurdles life has placed in front of them."

The ARC of Tri-Cities is a non-profit human service organization founded by parents in 1950 to promote services and support for their family members with developmental disabilities.
