Ericksen elected House
Republican floor leader
42nd District lawmaker returns to leadership role,
will lead House floor debate
Rep.
Doug Ericksen was elected today by his House Republican
colleagues to be floor leader. He replaces Rep. Dan Newhouse,
R-Sunnyside, who was selected Friday by Gov. Chris Gregoire to be
director of the state Department of Agriculture.
Ericksen, who has held the leadership position in the
past, is responsible for developing and implementing House floor
strategy during legislative debate. In addition, he is a member of the
House
Republican leadership team that sets legislative priorities and
communicates those ideas to the public.
“I'm excited about being
a part of our leadership team and helping to convey our solutions
for a better Washington,” said Ericksen, R-Ferndale.
“At a time of stimulus plans, budget shortfalls and rising health care
costs, Washingtonians want solutions and assurances from the people they
have elected. House Republicans have a plan and we are communicating it
to the public every day.”
“We’re pleased that Representative
Ericksen has agreed to assist us by filling this role on our leadership
team,” said
House
Republican Leader Richard DeBolt. “His abilities as a
communicator and his experience delving into complex policy matters will
be valuable attributes for the Republican Caucus as we strive to bring
about constructive solutions to challenges that will soon be before us
on the floor of the House.”
Ericksen
is serving his sixth term in the state House representing the
42nd
District. He and his wife, Tasha, are long-time residents of Whatcom
County and raising their two daughters, Elsa and Addi, in Ferndale.
