Nick Fagerness recently served as a legislative page in the Washington State House of Representatives Feb. 8 - 13. He was sponsored by Rep. Gary Alexander, R-Olympia. Nick, 15, is the son of Richard and Gala Fagerness of Rochester. He is a student at Academy Northwest. Nick's responsibilities included delivering messages and documents to legislators and legislative assistants, committee meetings and House chambers. He also spent time in the legislative page school learning about state government. "The legislative page program is a great opportunity that gives students first-hand experience about their government operates," said Alexander. "I've really enjoyed having Nick join me in Olympia as a legislative page. He's done an outstanding job and it was a pleasure having him serve as a legislative page." Young men and women have come to Olympia to serve as pages for the Washington State Legislature since 1891. Pages must obtain permission from their parents and schools, and many stay with volunteer host families in Thurston County. Rep. Alexander can be contacted at (360) 786-7990 or alexander.gary@leg.wa.gov.
