Rep. Barbara Bailey chairs Joint Committee on
Veterans' and Military Affairs hearing

10th District lawmaker attends committee assembly days in Olympia

Rep. Barbara Bailey chaired a hearing of the Joint Committee on Veterans' and Military Affairs in Olympia on Oct. 1. The 10th District lawmaker led an agenda that included reviewing the status of bills from the 2009 legislative session and updating members on the efforts of the Veterans' Legislative Coalition, Department of Veterans' Affairs, Governor's Advisory Committee on Veterans' Affairs, and Military Department.

"Our committee makes recommendations to the Legislature that affect the lives of our state's veterans, military personnel and their families. It's an honor to work on their behalf, and I want to thank those who attended the hearing," said Bailey, who also sits on the national board of the Navy League of the United States. "We still have a lot of important work ahead, and I look forward to the 2010 legislative session."

State lawmakers were in Olympia Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 for committee assembly days. They attended committee hearings, met in caucuses and received other legislative updates.

Bailey also attended a work session for the House Ways and Means Committee on Sept. 30, where she is assistant ranking Republican. She also participated in a House Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee work session on Oct. 1, where she is ranking Republican, and sat in as ranking Republican on the House Health Care and Wellness Committee on Oct. 2.

Rep. Barbara Bailey listens to committee remarks from Major General Timothy J. Lowenberg.

The 2010 legislative session begins Jan. 11 and is scheduled to last 60 days.
