Bailey-sponsored Washington
state flag account bill signed into law
More military families will now receive donated
state flags
The governor signed a bill
into law Monday that will create a new Washington state flag account.
The account will accept donations of state flags for military personnel
and their families.
House Bill 1121 was co-sponsored by
Rep.
Barbara Bailey, R-Oak Harbor.
"Our state has
heard from many people who wanted to donate state flags but had no
formal outlet through which to work. This legislation creates a formal program
that the secretary of state will administer," said Bailey.
"This program will allow more military families to receive a
piece of 'home' -- their state flag. And I'm really excited that they
will have this opportunity."
The Washington state flag account
will be in the custody of the state treasurer, but the secretary of
state will authorize expenditures.
The 2009 legislative session
is scheduled to end April 26.
