Oak Harbor High School
student serves as
legislative page for Rep. Barbara Bailey
Patrick Hageman featured in 10th District
lawmaker's weekly video update
Patrick Hageman
served as a legislative page in the Washington State House of
Representatives Feb. 22-27. He was sponsored by
Rep. Barbara Bailey.
Patrick, 14, is the son of Gilbert and Colleen Hageman of Oak
Harbor. He is a 9th grader at Oak Harbor High School.
“Patrick was an absolute delight to work with, and I'm so happy
he was able to come down from our hometown to experience a legislative
session,” said Bailey, R-Oak Harbor. “In addition to
working hard all week and learning more about state government, Patrick
showed a lot of poise when I had him appear in my weekly video update
taping. I hope he found it fun.”
Patrick's responsibilities included delivering messages and
documents to legislators and legislative assistants, committee meetings
and House chambers. He also continued his regular schoolwork and
spent time in the legislative page school learning about state
government.
Young men and women have come to Olympia since 1891
to serve as pages for the Washington State Legislature. Pages must
obtain permission from their parents and schools, and most live with
volunteer host families while in Olympia.
State representatives may only sponsor
a limited number of pages each session. Students interested in becoming
pages can contact Bailey directly at (360)
786-7914 or bailey.barbara@leg.wa.gov.
