Rep.
Barbara Bailey sponsors Oak Harbor
High School student as legislative
page
Marina Bankowski spends a week in the state House
of Representatives
Marina Bankowski of Oak
Harbor served as a legislative page in the Washington State House of
Representatives last week. She was sponsored by
Rep. Barbara
Bailey – also of Oak Harbor.
“It is always a pleasure
sponsoring pages – especially those who are from my hometown of Oak
Harbor. I think Marina had a great week and I’m hopeful that she will
share what she learned with her friends and family,” said Bailey.
“Our young men and women should always feel welcomed in Olympia –
whether as a page, intern, job shadow or just a visitor. My door is
always open to constituents – no matter what their age.”
Marina,
15, is the daughter of Walt and Lyn Bankowski. A sophomore at Oak Harbor
High School, she served as a page Feb. 2-6.
Marina’s
responsibilities included delivering messages and documents to
legislators and legislative assistants, committee meetings and House
chambers. She also continued her regular schoolwork and spent time in
the legislative page school learning about state government.
Young men and women have come to serve as pages in the Washington State
Legislature since 1891. Pages are required to obtain permission from
their parents and schools, and most of them stay with volunteer host
families while in Olympia.
State representatives can only
sponsor a limited number of pages each legislative session. Students and
parents interested in the House Page Program can contact Rep.
Bailey at (360) 786-7914 or
