Bailey on House Democrat supplemental operating budget proposal
“Our supplemental
operating budget should focus on caseload adjustments, corrective
actions and emergencies. House Democrats are proposing to spend $287
million, which is beyond this framework.
“Nonpartisan legislative staff is already forecasting a $2.4 billion
shortfall in our budget cycle for next year. We should not be adding to
this serious problem. The House Democrat approach ignores economic
realities, would likely cut our state reserves in half and piles on to a
previous 33 percent increase in state spending the last three years.
This is irresponsible and would leave our state even more vulnerable
financially.”
