Bailey and Smith honor,
welcome Naval Air Station Whidbey Island members to Olympia
Tenth District state lawmakers honored to
acknowledge group’s efforts
State
Representatives Barbara Bailey and
Norma
Smith proudly supported
House Resolution 4696 today – a measure that honors the spirit,
courage and mettle of Naval Air Station Whidbey Island’s pilots and
their aircrews. The 10th District state lawmakers also welcomed Naval
Air Station Whidbey Island members to Olympia.
“It is such a privilege for me to honor the great men and women of the
Naval Air Station Whidbey Island today. I am so proud of their selfless
dedication to our country and what they represent in our state,” said
Bailey, R-Oak Harbor. “While we are grateful for their efforts to
defend our country and help in times of domestic need, we must not
forget their local contributions. The men and women of the Naval Air
Station Whidbey Island are our friends and neighbors – and they make up
the fabric of our communities.”
“These brave men and women represent the best of America,” said
Smith, R-Clinton. “They represent so many of the families in our
caucus and in our nation. I know first-hand the sacrifices they make so
that we can be safe and secure. And, having family members in the
military, I know the great sacrifices their families make. It was an
honor to recognize them today and let them know they have our deepest
gratitude and thanks.”
The 10th District representatives invited the Naval Air Station Whidbey
Island members into the House Republican Caucus to meet with fellow
state lawmakers and staff, and later met them at another gathering in
the Capitol Building.
Three aircrews from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island provided search and
rescue support to help flood victims in six southwestern Washington
counties in early December. During the mission, the aircrews rescued 90
people in Lewis and Thurston counties. As noted in House Resolution
4696, “The example of these pilots and aircrew exhibit an incredible
heroic response to a dangerous situation threatening the citizens of the
state of Washington.”
